Our Background Story
Bali is more than where we practice architecture, it is where we learned to listen.
Over the years, the island has quietly shaped the way we see space, teaching us that architecture is never an object standing alone, but a relationship between people, landscape, climate, culture, and time.
Every site carries its own character, every material its own story, and every project an opportunity to create something that truly belongs. This understanding became the foundation of KATA Design Studio. Inspired by the meaning of “kata” a word, a story, an expression. We see design as a process of storytelling.
Rather than pursuing a fixed aesthetic, we seek to uncover the essence of a place and translate it into spaces that feel honest, enduring, and deeply connected to their surroundings.
Creating the Story
Every of our project begins with listening.
Before lines are drawn or forms are imagined, we seek to understand the character of a place, the aspirations of its people, and the experiences it hopes to create. We believe that meaningful architecture emerges not from imposing ideas, but from responding thoughtfully to context.
Our work spans master planning, architecture, interior design, and bespoke elements, allowing us to shape each layer of a project with clarity and consistency. From spatial planning and material selection to custom furniture, lighting, and crafted details, every decision contributes to a larger narrative.
Rather than treating architecture, interiors, and objects as separate disciplines, we see them as interconnected parts of a single story one that gives identity, atmosphere, and meaning to a place.
Through this holistic approach, we create thoughtful spaces that inspire connection, enrich everyday life, and cultivate a lasting sense of belonging.
The People Behind the Story
KATA Design Studio is led by Eka and Nita, together with a passionate team of architects, designers, and collaborators who share a deep appreciation for thoughtful design and meaningful places.
We believe that architecture is shaped through collaboration between people, ideas, culture, nature, and craftsmanship. Each project is approached with curiosity, care, and a commitment to creating spaces that feel authentic, timeless, and connected to their surroundings.
Our studio is also home to a few four-legged companions who have become part of our daily creative journey. They remind us to slow down, stay present, and find joy in the process, bringing warmth, balance, and a sense of humanity to everything we do.
