Ngarangin Bukit began with a simple observation: traditional Balinese settlements are not only collections of buildings, but living environments where people, nature, and community exist in harmony. We were interested in exploring how these values could be translated into a contemporary apartment typology without losing their essence.

Rather than imposing a singular structure onto the hillside, we allowed the natural contours of the land to guide the design. The building steps gently along the terrain, creating a series of terraces, courtyards, and gardens that feel like an extension of the landscape itself. This approach not only minimizes the impact on the site but also ensures that every unit receives natural light, airflow, and a meaningful connection to the surrounding views.

Central to the project is our reinterpretation of the natah, the communal heart of a Balinese home. Shared terraces, open walkways, and gathering spaces are woven throughout the development, creating opportunities for spontaneous interaction and a stronger sense of belonging among residents.

For us, Ngarangin Bukit is more than an apartment building. It is an exploration of how higher-density living can remain human, connected, and deeply rooted in local culture-where architecture becomes a framework for community, landscape, and everyday life to grow together.
